Most Contra Costa County auto accidents are investigated by the California Highway Patrol.  Most collision reports are available a few days after the incident.  They are kept for 3 years.  If it is an old report, there may a 3-4 day wait period, but otherwise you can just walk in an pick them up at California Highway Patrol  Attn: Collision Report Requests 5001 Blum Road Martinez, CA 94553-4395 (925) 646-4980.  There is a $10 copying fee for the reports at last check.  For more info, visit:   http://www.chp.ca.gov/publications/form190.html.

Contra Costa Only Allow Traffic Court Appearances 11 Days a Month
Contra Costa Traffic Courts are open 5 days a week, but appearances only happen on Monday, Wednesday and Friday - and get this - they are closed one Wednesday a month.  If you want a walk in appearance on an old case, call the court clerk in advance to make sure you can get one before you waste a trip out there.

Bring Lots of Quarters to Walnut Creek Courthouse
The Walnut Creek Courthouse on Ignacio Valley has very limited parking. Most of the surrounding streets have parking meters.  Bring lots of quarters and get there early to park.

Arrive by 8:15 If You Want a Walk In Appearance
:  Contra Costa Courts will allow walk in appearances on bench warrant cases for driving on a suspended drivers license, driving under the influence and other misdemeanors, but the availability varies.  To have the best chance at getting a same day walk in appearance, arrive and check in at the court clerks office by 8:15, preferably with your case #.

Call the Court Clerk the Day Before Going to Court:  the Contra Costa traffic and misdemeanor courts have in the past changed or rescheduled court dates without proper notification to the defendant.  To avoid a wasted and frustrating trip to martinez court or pittsburg courthouse, go to the court's web site and look up the court clerks number, then call and confirm the date, time and location of your appearnace.
